Donna Sternberg & Dancers

MENDING

Mending is a performance examining the varied experiences and effects of Covid-19 on individuals and communities, and the ways we are beginning to heal from the trauma. The genesis of this topic was born from conversations between Artistic Director, Donna Sternberg and immunologist Devavani Chatterjea, on healing through the lens of disease ecology and recognizing that the experiences of Covid-19 are not uniformed largely due to systemic issues that limit access to healthcare, shelter, security, and nutrition in various communities. In partnership with community members and healers, workshops were conducted where expressive movement, drawing, writing, and sharing were used as a tool for reflection, connection, and healing. These workshops as well as input from the dancers, served as material and inspiration for the piece.
